Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Jan 5 (PTI) CPI-M today expressed optimism over a Third Front emerging "soon" in the country to give the people an alternative. "Third Front will soon emerge in the country as an alternative to the people as neither Congress nor BJP is going to get majority in next Lok Sabha elections," party's politburo member Sitaram Yechury said here today. To a query, Yechury said Samajwadi Party would be a major part of a Third Front and the front's "revival programme" would be completed before the budget session of Parliament. The Third Front, he added, would launch an awareness campaign from Mumbai, Kanyakumari, Amritsar and Kolkata, while a meeting is scheduled on March 19 in New Delhi's Ramleela Maidan. On FDI, Yechury said CPI-M would continue to oppose it though Parliament had passed the bill. "During NDA regime, Congress had supported us on FDI. 3 hostages, 1 gunman killed in Colorado shooting
Washington, Jan 5 (PTI) The US city of Aurora, that was the scene of a movie theater massacre last year, was shaken again by a hostage crisis that ended with the death of four people, including the gunman. A gunman, who was holed up in a house with several hostages, kept the police at bay for several hours, but the standoff ended with the killing of three hostages and the gunman. Local media reports said that police broke into the house after hours of failed negotiations gunned down the culprit. Three victims were discovered dead inside the home, Denver News reported. Neighbours who heard gunshots from the house called the police at around 3 am (local time Saturday), following which police surrounded the house and evacuated the area. According to a report in the local KUSA news, one person inside the home was able to escape the hostage situation and alert authorities. The identities of the victims and the gunman were not released immediately. Last year in July, the Colorado city of Aurora witnessed a macabre shooting incident at a movie theater screening The Dark Knight Rises, in which 12 people were killed and 58 were injured. The US was shaken last month when a gunman barged into an elementary school and shot dead 20 little children and six school staffers, in one of a series of such shooting incidents that has sparked a gun control debate in the country. Cong to name its candidate for HP Assembly Speaker on Jan 7
Shimla, Jan 5 (PTI) Congress' candidate for the post of Speaker of newly-elected Himachal Pradesh Assembly would be announced at its legislature party meeting at Dharamsala on January 7. "The name of candidate for the post of Speaker would be decided soon and a formal announcement would be made at the meeting of Congress Legislature Party to be held at Dharamsala on the eve of first session of the newly elected Vidhan Sabha," AICC general secretary and in charge of organisational affairs for Himachal, Birender Singh Chowdhary, told PTI. Singh said the names of some Independent MLAs desirous of supporting the Congress Government in the state would also be announced in the meeting. He said the election for the Speaker would be held on January 9, but the election of the deputy Speaker might to deferred for the time being. When asked about the fate of the appointments of Chairman of Boards and corporations by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Chowdhary said the same have been "held in abeyance till the next communication from the high command." However, all such appointments in further would be made after approval from the High Command. As it's one of the most anticipated devices in recent times, it's no surprise that rumours about the Samsung Galaxy SIV keep popping up. According to SamMobile, a picture of the device has been leaked some blessed soul from Samsung. While the legitimacy of the picture is up for debate, it is very likely that this is the next device in the Galaxy S series.The new phone is set to feature a much thinner bezel along with a bigger screen. Also notable is the lack of buttons on the front face. This points to Samsung finally making the shift towards on-screen buttons. Overall, the design is very reminiscent of the Galaxy SIII and the Galaxy Premier, with a greater focus on curves at the corners. Without an official statement by Samsung, though, this could be just a fake picture.

Sonia Gandhi travelled in IAF aircraft 49 times in 7 years
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi also travelled in IAF aircraft and helicopters eight times in the last three years, according to a reply received under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are not eligible to travel by IAF aircraft and helicopters so they have to travel in the company of eligible persons which includes the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Defence Minister for official purposes. For unofficial purposes, only the Prime Minister is eligible.
Other Cabinet ministers can also travel by these aircraft after taking permission of the Prime Minister. According to IAF rules, people eligible for airlift can take other co-passengers for specific purposes.
Of the 49 air travels undertaken by Sonia Gandhi in IAF aircraft, 42 did not result in any bills as they were undertaken in the company of eligible people while six bills were raised and paid by the respective departments.
One bill of Rs 1.17 crore is still pending against the Karnataka government as this trip was undertaken on behalf of the state government. The flight details show Sonia Gandhi also travelled with Pranab Mukherjee (the then Finance and External Affairs Minister) and Defence Minister AK Antony six times each.
The reply received by Hissar-based RTI activist Ramesh Verma from the Defence Ministry and IAF headquarters show Assam Government has an outstanding of Rs 8.26 lakh on one air travel undertaken by Rahul Gandhi. One bill for air travel of Rahul Gandhi to Assam is still under preparation.
2013 Mahindra Pantero in India first ride
More than two years after launching its first ever motorcycle, the Stallio, Mahindra 2 Wheelers is once again vying for attention in the crucial 110cc commuter segment, which forms the core of our motorcycling industry. Mahindra has completely revamped the Stallio, and given the motorcycle a new name, christening it the Pantero. Here's all that you need to know about the new Mahindra Pantero.
What's new?
The Pantero's styling is identical to the erstwhile Stallio, but Mahindra claim everything else apart from the styling package is all-new, including the engine. Mahindra say they received a positive response about the styling of the Stallio and hence they did not feel the need to alter that. As a result the Pantero sports the same sharp-looking bikini fairing at the front along with the slender fuel tank and body panels. The clocks remain unchanged, and the Pantero features the same all-digital dash as the Stallio and the current Rodeo RZ, with a digital tachometer, fuel gauge and speedometer. The engine displaces 110cc as before but is all-new according to Mahindra. Code named MCi-5 the new engine has been designed and developed in house. Power and torque figures stand at 8.5PS and 8.5Nm, which are higher than the Stallio's 7.3PS and 8Nm. Claimed ARAI efficiency for the engine is 79.4kmpl, which sounds impressive.
The chassis has been reworked as well and now employs a three-point mounting for the engine. The chassis according to Mahindra is lighter by about 1.2kg, which should aid the dynamics of the motorcycle. The suspension has been tweaked to improve ride quality, and the bike now gets MRF Zapper tyres at both ends. The seat is now softer and longer, which according to the manufacturer should help accommodate taller riders with ease. At the rear the Pantero now gets an LED stop light, along with LED pilot lamps that adorn the front fairing.
How is it?
Initial impressions of the motorcycle are positive, and the Pantero feels a whole lot better than the Stallio. Mahindra claim the engine has been tested extensively for NVH levels, and while it does feel a lot more refined we felt there is still scope for improvement. Performance has improved as well, especially the mid-range grunt. However the engine does feel buzzy at the top, typical of most motorcycles in the segment. Mahindra have gone with the traditional all-up shift pattern for the four-speed gearbox, which offers near precise shifts but feel could have been better. The riding position feels comfortable, but the seat though long enough feels a bit narrow. The suspension tweaks and MRF Zappers help the motorcycle around corners, as it feels more agile and confident. Ride quality feels good as well, and the motorcycle felt comfortable even on undulating surfaces.
When is it coming?
Mahindra have not announced a launch date yet. They plan to launch the Pantero in phases across the country, and the Centuro is expected to follow later. Pricing is not out either, but we expect it to be priced competitively given that the Pantero will compete with the likes of established players like the Hero Splendor and Honda Dream Yuga. When launched, the Pantero will be sold in four variants - T1 will get electric start with alloy wheels and digital clocks, while T2 will get electric start and alloy wheels with an analog dash. T3 and T4 will get a kick start only and an analog dash, but the T3 will get alloy wheels, while T4 will make do with spoked rims.

Below is an edited transcript of Mark Matthews's interview on CNBC-TV18
Q: What did you take away from the minutes of Fed meeting? Should one get worried about liquidity tightening in 2013 or it's premature to draw such a conclusion?
A: I think it is premature. A few of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) members said they want to end the purchases in 2013. But a few could mean three, which is not a lot. If it was a majority, they would have said as a majority and so I do not mind if a few of the FOMC members want to stop the purchases in 2013. But that will be very data dependent, specifically on the labour data and the labour data in the US is improving at a very slow rate and is still very weak.
If one go back to the FOMC minutes of December '12, where they spelled out the new evince rule whereby they would continue a very low interest rates and QE until the unemployment rate gets to 6.5 percent or below, then we will still get QE3 until the unemployment gets at 6.5 percent.
Q: Is there any reason to believe that liquidity conditions will not be supportive to asset prices in 2013?
A: The only way it would happen is if the US economy gets so much better that the unemployment rate goes to 6.5 percent and markets would go up on the back of that story.

Bullion: Gold futures on the MCX were trading lower tracking the fall in international contracts. The downtrend in the metal was limited as the rupee weakened against the dollar. Gold futures on COMEX were trading slightly lower today due to the firm dollar against the euro and on profit booking. Indian gold prices received some support on news that the government might hike import duty on the precious metal to curb imports.
Energy: Crude oil futures contracts were trading marginally higher on the MCX due to the weak rupee against the dollar, despite the slight fall in prices on New York Mercantile Exchange in overnight trade. Crude oil prices had already factored in the optimism on US deal for averting fiscal cliff and were due for a correction. Metals: Base metals may be volatile in coming weeks, as investors react to further headlines regarding ongoing U.S. budget negotiations. On MCX, early most base metal contracts were up about 1%, and were expected to rise further on bullish demand projections for metals from the US and China. On LME, metal prices surged in early trade, with zinc hitting an 11-month high and lead soaring to a 16-month high. In China, world's largest consumer of base metals, manufacturing activity has been robust for the third consecutive month in December. With the country's manufacturing sector picking up, demand for metals is expected to follow suit.

Even as enthusiasts across the country await the launch of the Caf Racer , Royal Enfield has unveiled the motorcycle at the Long Beach Motorcycle Show in the USA last month. The bike will be launched in the US by June or August 2013 as a 2014 model, and the unveiling has revealed some more details about the motorcycle, things we were not told at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi . For the Caf Racer, the Classic 500 's 499cc, air-cooled single has been bored out to displace 535cc, the displacement of the erstwhile Lightning 535. Power output is also up, from the Classic 500's 27PS to 36PS, which is the highest ever for a Royal Enfield. Torque ratings were not disclosed but we expect that to be significantly higher than the Classic as well.
The frame has been designed and developed by Harris Engineering, while suspension has been developed by Paioli. The Caf Racer is expected to be lighter than the Classic by about 21 kilos, which should make it as light as a Honda CBR250R . The higher power output, weight loss and the hike in engine capacity should easily make the Caf Racer the quickest and fastest Royal Enfield to date. The bike is expected to retail in the USA for the equivalent of Rs 4 lakh. While we do not expect it to be as expensive when launched in India at the next Auto Expo, we believe pricing could be in the region of Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh. A host of accessories were also announced at the unveiling, which include aluminum bits like fenders, upper and lower triple brackets, aftermarket exhausts and optional clip-on or clubman handlebars. Options will also include a single or twin saddle seat, different fuel tanks - steel, plastic or aluminum, apart from different gear ratios.
As of now, it is difficult to comment on how many of these accessories will make it to India when the bike is launched, but the engine specifications do have us waiting for the launch already!
