Prefer private sector banks over PSUs: Gautam Trivedi

Gautam Trivedi, MD & Head of Equities-India at Religare Capital Markets told CNBC-TV18, "The pain in the economy is starting to catch-up with the private sector banks. The question is will they be able to dodge it, which they have done successfully over the past 24-36 months where the public sector undertaking (PSU) banks have taken the brunt of the NPL issue versus the privates."

"So I think undoubtedly private sector banks continue to remain the preferred choice over PSUs not withstanding beautiful valuations for the PSUs, but I think people at this point are in absolutely no mood to venture into the PSU space in spite of the great valuation," he said.

"Going forward, we will know by the end of this month as more PSUs and of course State Bank of India (SBI) declare results, but I think fact is the preferred choice remains with private sector banks over PSUs."
